The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Internship in the Content and News Department. The intern will help the Content and News Department create content for American Heart Association News. This will include writing news and feature stories that will be used on AHA’s websites and offered to outside publications and wire services. Journalism duties could require: reporting, writing, photography, video editing and other tasks. This internship is for senior or graduate level students.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist in online editorial production processes for publishing stories, videos and other content.

  • Interview researchers, doctors, survivors and experts for news and feature stories

  • Write news stories, feature stories, promotional items and other copy

  • Develop creative ideas for original content

  • Shoot and edit video and take photos as time permits and opportunities arise

  • Assist with other tasks as needed.


Experience/skills needed:

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail

  • Strong writing and interviewing skills

  • Willingness to work as part of a team and to take direction

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Ability to effectively communicate science and medical concepts in simple language (or willingness to learn in a hurry)

  • Must possess a 2.5 or higher GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at an accredited college or University.

  • Must be experienced with MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint).

  • Prefer candidates who are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing Journalism or Communications degree.
