The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Instructional Designer in our Emergency Cardiovascular Care - Science & Product Development department based out of our National Center office located in Dallas, TX! You will be implementing educational principles to increase the efficiency of lifesaving CPR, first aid, and other healthcare learning programs produced by the Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) department. Responsible for guiding development in support of the education and training needs of more than 22 million students (healthcare providers and laypersons), instructors, and faculty each year around the globe, through various modes of delivery (instructor-led training, e-learning, simulation, books/e-books, video, websites, etc.). Responsible for crafting and developing new educational and performance improvement products that will effectively deliver intended outcomes and provide an outstanding educational experience to both instructors and learners.
Translates scientific content into effective and engaging learning programs according to instructional design and adult learning theory. Identifies and applies standard methodologies for aligning training delivery system to target audiences based on these principles
Advises on research, industry standards, and educational concepts, including but not limited to those outlined in AHA educational Guidelines and Statements. Recommends and develops curriculum. Recommend edits to learning objectives according to standard methodologies
Engages with staff and subject matter authorities to understand training needs. Identifies ways to improve program performance, user experience, knowledge retention, and ultimately patient outcomes
Coordinates work produced by external e-learning developers. Designs and builds print and digital training products as needed. Ensures consistent, efficient, and accessible educational design across all programs
Maintains course design documentation throughout development. Maps learning outcomes to topics/content descriptions, instructional methods, assessment methods, and performance criteria
Maintains awareness of new research, developments, and technologies in education and healthcare training. Attends professional development opportunities as directed. Continuously upgrades personal knowledge of products, content, audiences, and science relative to AHA/ECC educational programs
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Adult Learning, related area or equivalent work experience with related certifications
Six (6) years of successful experience in educational research, instructional design, implementation of educational methodology, and curriculum management
Four (4) years of demonstrable success in leading large learning programs with strong results
Three (3) years of course development experience with use of e-learning authoring tools
Three (3) years of experience working with learning management systems, both on an end-user and administrative level
Formal training in instructional design, educational psychology, adult learning theory, and e-learning
Excellent technical/instructional writing skills
Two (2) years of experience with healthcare learning programs
Understanding of continuing education requirements and CE/CME program implementation
