The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Director Educational Design at our National Center Office located in Dallas, TX! This individual will be responsible for continuously increasing the effectiveness of lifesaving CPR, first aid, and other healthcare learning programs produced by the Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) department. Responsible for developing the strategic vision for the department’s educational methodology and guides the instructional design of learning programs and products. Responsible for collaborating with senior staff, volunteers, consultants, and other educational authorities and organizations to optimize the AHA’s impact.
Designs, documents, and supports an educational methodology governing all learning programs produced by ECC
Provides thought leadership and strategic oversight for the department’s educational vision. Advises on research, industry standards, and educational concepts outlined in AHA Guidelines and Statements. Guides the development of curriculum and learning objectives
Engages with senior staff and volunteer leadership to identify ways to improve program performance, user experience, knowledge retention, and ultimately patient outcomes through research, outcomes assessment, strategic partnerships, and innovation
Develops recommendations to continuously increase the quality of the AHA Instructor Network
Oversees the development, testing, and implementation of new educational concepts in learning programs
Manages and develops instructional designer(s)
Ensures consistent and efficient design across all programs
Identifies opportunities to collaborate and co-produce educational content with other departments. Oversees, evaluates, and maintains the documentation and procedures supporting the educational design and implementation process
Manages the budget supporting educational design and innovation
Maintains awareness of new research, developments, and technologies in education and healthcare training
Continuously upgrades personal knowledge of AHA educational programs, content, audiences, and science relative to AHA/ECC educational programs.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
Seven (7) years of successful experience in adult educational research, instructional design, implementation of educational methodology, and curriculum management (not seeking K-12 experience)
Five (5) years of demonstrable success in leading large learning programs with strong results Emphasis on leadership competencies; ability to use informal authority to influence at all levels; ability to effectively assess and leverage skill sets and interests of team members and volunteers
Formal training in instructional design, educational psychology, adult learning theory, and e-learning
Master’s degree in Education or related field
Two (2) years of experience with healthcare learning programs .
